I'm interested in receiving Thai massage, however I have very limited flexibility. Is Thai massage something that I could benefit from? Absolutely! Regardless of your flexiblity level, you can always benefit from Thai massage, whether you stretch yourself regularly or haven't for years! The techniques in Thai massage can easily be adapted for all body types. Are the muscles actually massaged during a Thai session or just stretched? Yes, they are massaged during a Thai session, however they are massaged by using deep compressions. This is because you remain fully clothed during the massage and no oil is used. I like a really deep massage, is Thai massage right for me? Most definitely! The pressure of a Thai massage can be varied for each individual. Since the massage takes place on the floor, it allows for greater leverage, which in return makes it easier for the therapist to work deeper. You may even find that your therapist will work with her feet in order to get deep pressure without a lot of effort. What should I wear during a Thai massage session? Comfortable clothing, something that you can stretch easily in without restriction. If you tend to get cold during massage, feel free to wear long sleeves or a sweatshirt. I'm pregnant, is it okay for me to receive a Thai massage? Yes, once you have reached your second trimester you may receive Thai massage. In some situations it may be necessary to get clearance from your doctor first. You should only receive massage from someone who has been trained to work with pregnant women whether it is a Thai massage or Swedish massage, be sure they are trained in the modality that you are seeking. |
